A set of illustrations inspired by space. With a cheeky Star Wars reference in there. ;D

I like birds. Great tits especially. I know it sounds weird in English, but in Dutch they are called ‘Koolmeesjes’. I have always loved this bird since I was a little kid. They always stood out from the other birds, they made me smile and just happy. So I decided a couple of years ago I needed a tattoo of one. And I’m still super happy I got one! Before I got one I looked up what the represented and I found this: Truth, reality, acrobatics, cheerful, sunny and carefree. A lot of things I value a lot and some I wish I was (carefree).
I listened to Eels’ ‘I like birds’ a few days ago, that I used to listen to all the time, every day, and again, remember from our holidays with the fam. And it made me so happy again, I just had to dance to it. It’s spring, it’s sunny out (some days), the birds are singing and nature is beautiful. So once in a while, turn up the volume and dance, dance like no one is watching.
If you’re small and on a search
I’ve got a feeder for you to perch on
Last Saturday me and my friend Amy went to the ‘Nordic Delight Festival’ in Amsterdam. The reason I wanted to go there was because ‘Axel Flovent’ was one of the performers that night. His music helped me through some panic attacks and helped me go to sleep at night (I don’t sleep with my phone near my bed anymore, so I can’t listen to music at night). I came across his song ‘Forest Fires’ on the YouTube channel, ‘wavering noise’. It has been one of my favorite songs ever since.
Amy was wearing this adorable denim dungarees with a checkered blouse and I loved it so much my outfit is inspired by hers. We had a lot of fun, heard some really good new music and saw some weird movies that night. And I want to thank her for being so amazing.
I can’t change your thoughts, my dear
I can’t change your fears
But if you want I’ll travel near
To make it disappear
Your dreams are incredibly loud tonight
You’re creating forest fires
You can’t even change your sight
It’s stuck in you like a virus
Is it a secret Ariel is my favorite Disney princess? I had to do another outfit inspired by my favorite mermaid. Isn’t this pinafore the perfect Ariel red? I ordered it from H&M a while ago, together with the same pinafore in black. The shirt is an embroidery project, my precious Ariel pin is from our trip Martin and I had to Disneyland Paris. And of course my lovely mermaid shoes!
I recently saw a post on Facebook talking about how MAC cosmetics claims to be ‘animal cruelty free’ but still decides to sell their make up in China. China requires by law that every beauty product is tested on animals before it can be sold in stores. Animal testing isn’t necessary and luckily there are a lot of make up brands that do NOT test on animals. I love the lists on http://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/list-of-cruelty-free-brands/ (English) or http://naoki.nl/nederlandse-dierproefvrije-cosmetica-lijst/ (Dutch) to check all the brands that are animal cruelty free and vegan. I personally love the make up of Tarte, Urban Decay, Essence and Catrice. And the hair dyes I use are from Arctic Fox, Manic Panic and Directions. The laundry detergent, dish soap and cleaning supplies we use are from Ecover (started in Belgium) and I recommend Seepje (started in the Netherlands) for my Dutch followers as well.
I got this adorable tote bag while Martin and I went to the cat cafe ‘Kopjes‘ in Amsterdam. If you ever go to visit Amsterdam I recommend eating some cake and drink their home-made lemonade and cuddle the cute kitties they have! You’ll have to make a reservation since it’s very busy but it’s worth it!
I love science fiction. I love learning about the universe and watching the stars, thinking about how small we actually are, looking at all these dots that are billions of light years away and probably won’t exist anymore when we see them. My dad showed me the amazing genre of Sci-fi in books and movies (Star Wars!) and I love to go Sci-fi movies with him, my brother and my boyfriend. I do outgeek him in Star Wars now, tho!
I usually think about my outfits a few days in advance so I can build a theme and choose a song to go with it. When I saw this ‘Space girl’ sweater in Pull&Bear I knew I really want it, and it goes perfect with the theme of todays post. And space buns seems to be in lately, so I wanted to give it a try! They might not be perfect, but I love them! It’s such a cute and fun hairstyle, you can do them half up/half down or all up.
Today I’m going to spend the day with my parents. So I wanted to devote a blogpost to them. Cause they are awesome. And I’ve inherited two things from my parents, love for music and love for crafting. My dad taught me and my brother about the beauty of music from a young age, and I started playing the piano when I was a kid. My mum always made us new clothes or costumes or toys and we were always crafting or drawing or painting. She made my first Ariel dress and even a Pippi Longstockings costume that made me win the book week prize!
I wanted to pair my outfit with my Mario Vans, I grew up with the NES and Super Mario Bros (Where are my nineties kids at!) and that it would be fitting to bring some nostalgia in blogpost about nostalgia.
I wanted to start making daily outfit posts, not in the outdoors, where I’m dependent on friends to make my photo’s, but safe inside my home. Where I can just set up my camera, learn how to pose and get into the habit of daily ‘outfit of the day’ posts. Ever since I’m unemployed I got into a downwards spiral with being creative. I played the new Zelda for hours (thanks for getting me hooked Amy!), watched TV and some days I got to go out with my boyfriend or friends. But since my boyfriend has a new job, and I’m home alone with banjo until he comes home, I’m trying to work as hard as if I were when I have a job. Up until now I only get declines on my job applications, because I haven’t got years of experience. So to show them I’ve got the skills, I’ve decided to redesign my entire blog. What’s the best way to show your web programming and design skills, then by sending a portfolio site made entirely by myself! Unfortunately I’ve kinda got a creativity block. It feels like I need to push myself to create original ideas. If anyone has the same problem from time to time where creativity just doesn’t seem to be anywhere, let me know.
Sometimes you find a story that moves you in such a way that you never knew was possible.
The song that stuck in my head, and is my most listened when I read this book, is Sufjan Steven’s ‘For the widows in Paradise, for the fatherless in Ypsilanti’. This song feels like it fits right into the time period this story takes place, after the first World War. When the soldiers that had survived went home and had to live with the nightmares and bad dreams for the rest of their lives. Please give it a listen while you read the rest of this post. I have no rights of the song, all rights go to Sufjan Stevens.
