The light between oceans

Sometimes you find a story that moves you in such a way that you never knew was possible.

The song that stuck in my head, and is my most listened when I read this book, is Sufjan Steven’s ‘For the widows in Paradise, for the fatherless in Ypsilanti’. This song feels like it fits right into the time period this story takes place, after the first World War. When the soldiers that had survived went home and had to live with the nightmares and bad dreams for the rest of their lives. Please give it a listen while you read the rest of this post. I have no rights of the song, all rights go to Sufjan Stevens.

‘I now walk into the wild’

There are only a few movies that really won my heart. Into the wild being one of them. I remember seeing the movie for the first time years ago and every since I know about the story it has fascinated me. I recently found the book secondhand in a bookstore and didn’t have to think twice if I should buy it or not. I watched the movie years ago, it was the first time ever I cried during the credits.

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

Mermazing

Most people have a favorite Disney princess, I grew up with ‘Beauty and the Beast’ as the only Disney movie to watch. I absolutely adored that movie, I’ve watched it so many times when I was younger and to this day I still love the movie to bits. At the same time I’ve always loved the idea of being a mermaid, tail and all, swimming and singing in the water exploring the ocean, meeting the sea animals. Throughout the years my love for mermaids and thus the Little mermaid movie grew. And I have to say that Ariel took over Belle’s spot as my favorite Disney princess. Since my blog is called ‘Let’s be mermaids’ I wanted to do an Ariel inspired look for my blog today.
